When mounting a master cylinder low in the car below caliper level, a residual pressure valve is needed to hold a small (2 lb) line pressure on your brake system. 2 lb is the correct amount for disc brake systems, a higher pressure valve is required for drum brake systems.

This valve should be mounted as close to the master cylinder as possible.
