When mounting a master cylinder low in the car below caliper level, a residual pressure valve is needed to hold a small line pressure on your brake system. 10 lb is the correct amount for drum brake systems, a lower pressure valve is required for disc brake systems.

This valve should be mounted as close to the master cylinder as possible.
